Healthy Recipe    

Heart Healthy Tomato Sauce

Yeild: 6 - 1/2 cup servings

INGREDIENTS:

1- 14.5 oz  No Salt Added Stewed Tomatoes
1-  8  oz    No Salt Added Tomato Sauce
1-  6 oz     No Salt Added Tomato Paste
1  Bay Leaf
1 TB of the following: Basil, Sage, Oregano
1 small onion chopped
4 tsp chopped garlic
3 TB extra virgin Olive Oil

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Heat oil and sauté onions and garlic.
  2. Add stewed tomatoes, sauce and paste.
  3. Add seasonings and bay leaf.
  4. Bring to boil and simmer for 30 minutes on low.
  5. Remove bay leaf prior to serving.

 

NUTRITION CONTENT: per ½ cup serving

Calories: 69

Fat: 4.7g

Carbohydrates: 10g

Sodium: 43 mg COMPARE TO CANNED PREPARED  TOMATO SAUCE= approx. 640 mg!
